For the purpose of my dissertation, I have been asked to define certain terms that will be used throughout the thesis. I would like to ask you if such definitions make sense to you.

Queen Regnant – a female monarch in her own right of inheritance

Queen Consort – a female consort of a male monarch

Queen Dowager – a female consort of a previous male monarch

Queen Mother – a female consort whose husband was a male monarch and their child is now monarch

Queenship – the rank or status of a queen

Agency – the capacity of individuals to act independently and to make their own free choices

Power – an entity’s ability to control its environment, including the behavior of other entities

Rule – to regulate, be in charge of, make decisions for, reign over

Reign – the exercise of sovereign power or the period during which a monarch rules

Regent – One who rules in place of the monarch because the monarch is too young, absent, or disabled

Young (Monarch) – a monarch under an accepted age of authority and consent

Absent (Monarch) – a monarch who is not present within their own realm

Disabled (Monarch) – a monarch who is unable to rule due to either physical or mental ill-health

Contemporary Reputation – what an individual is known for during their lifetime and immediately after their death

Historical Representation – A unique version of historical events and individual reputation written by an author from a differing time period
